How can you Easily Screw Up Your Blog?

Screw UpYou may not have thought there was much you could do to screw up your blog, but it turns out, there are some things you could be doing that are making you look bad. Blogging is so important to your brand and company success, so it’s of the utmost importance that you are taking the time to do things right.

It’s how you gain new customers and retain the ones you already have. Your blog is the perfect way to engage with your audience, so the last thing you should be doing is copying other blogs, posting infrequently, or being spammy with your readers. Here is a look at the common ways people mess up their blog.

You are spamming people

Spamming PeopleIf you use your blog as a way to spam people, you are going to lose readership quickly. If there are a ton of ads in every other paragraph, tons of promotion of your own product, and ads on the sidebar as well as within the content. The rule of thumb is to limit ads to two per page at most.

The comments section is never filtered

One rule you should follow with your blog is to always be moderating the comments. People will act as trolls and post nonsense in blogs anywhere they go to post links to other websites. When comments aren’t moderated, people will look at your site as spammy. Moderate regularly and add filters to make sure spam is already being watched for.

Posting infrequently

If you’re only posting once per year, you are not going to have a following. Schedule time in once per week to update your blog. Schedule out articles to make sure your readers have something to look at regularly.

Copying other blogs

Copying OthersThere’s always going to be other bloggers covering a subject, but you should do your best to never copy someone else’s work. Be sure to make it original and provide a fresh take on the topic. Do your research on a topic instead of regurgitating someone else’s information.

Lastly, never interacting with your readers, getting off topic, forgetting to edit your work, and never including statistics are all ways that you could screw up your blog. Make a point to avoid these mistakes and make your blog great this year.
