Can you Paginate Comments in WordPress?

Have you ever seen a blog that actually has multiple pages of comments? You may not get that many comments, as a beginner, but you may still want to paginate your comments in WordPress. In this short WordPress tutorial, we will show you the easiest way to paginate your comments.

Paginating Your WordPress Blog Comments

The process to paginate your comments in WordPress is very easy. Start by logging into your WordPress dashboard and going to Settings >> Discussion.

Paginate WordPress Comments

This is where you will find the option to break your comments into pages. It’s found under the “Other Comment Settings” section.

Other Comment Settings

You will want to check the box called “Break comments into pages with.” This box will automatically create pages for your comments. Depending on the theme you are using, you will either have numeric pages displayed with your comments or you will have a Previous/Next for the pages of comments.

Below this option, you can change the settings for the pagination of your comments in WordPress. This is done by choosing how many comments you want per page. Setting it at a lower number will cause more pages to be created and a higher number will cause fewer pages to be created.

If you’re working with a new WordPress site, you may want to set the number of comments between 10 and 20 per page. A higher number may cause it to take quite some time to actually get enough comments to show the page links.

Why Should You Paginate WordPress Comments?

Paginating your comments will allow you to split them up into pages with the most recent showing with your post. This will also help you avoid the white screen of death that shows when the memory is exhausted. Sometimes, this happens because you have so many comments, which causes the post to take forever to load.

Even if you don’t get the white screen of death, a large number of comments can cause slower load times. It’s best to paginate your comments and with this WordPress tutorial, you know the easiest way to make it happen.
