Can you Paginate a WordPress Post?

Sometimes, you may have a post for your blog that’s really long or contains many parts. You’ve probably seen other blogs that use a few pages for these types of posts and display a separate image for each section of the post. This is called pagination and its possible do to this with your WordPress Posts.

Why Would You Want to Paginate a WordPress Post?

There are many reasons to paginate a WordPress post, but the main reason is to reduce bounce rates and increase your pageviews. When a visitor goes to multiple pages on your website, it looks good to the search engines and they stay longer. This helps in many ways.

Of course, another reason to do this is if you have a post that is just super long. Splitting it into two or three parts or pages is a good idea if you have more than 1,000 words. This can also be helpful if you’re providing five tips or seven tips for something. Giving each tip a page can help you use more pictures and increase your pageviews.

How to Paginate Your WordPress Post

Depending on the theme you’re using, pagination of a post may be very easy. Well-coded themes will use short codes and all you will have to do is enter the following code in your Text editor to tell WordPress to create a new page.

However, with some themes, you will need to insert a little bit of code before this will work. If this is the case, you will need to go to Appearance >> Editor and find your single.php file.

Once you insert this, you will be able to use the short code from above to paginate your posts.
