So you have a new website and you’re ready to move forward with creating your online presence. Whether your site is for personal use or business use, there are some things you need to do regularly to maintain it. Here’s a list of some of the things you should add to your monthly website maintenance list.
Navigate Your Own Site
As websites develop it’s important to take time out to navigate your own website. This allows you to see what visitors are seeing. You may discover pages that don’t load very fast or errors within your site. If you do this once or twice a month, you can catch many issues before they cost you sales.
Test the Submission Form
If you have a submission form for contacting you or for any other reason, you should test it once a month. Sometimes, errors can occur with updates to your site and cause your submission form to stop working. If this happens you want to get it fixed as quick possible.
Check Your Sites on a Mobile Device
Another thing to do every month is check your site on a mobile device. This allows you to make sure everything is working properly on all devices. You don’t want to lose your mobile-friendly website as many people use mobile devices to perform searches online.
Write a Blog Post
For most businesses, blog content is vital to the success of your website. You want to write at least one blog post per month. However, most websites will require multiple posts every week. You may need to hire a writer to handle most of yours and just add one or two a month of your own to your blog.
Review your Static Content
Your pages need to be reviewed at least a few times a year. The content shouldn’t stay the same from year-to-year. Most businesses changes prices, add features, add to services, switch hours, hire or fire employees and do plenty of other things. These changes need to be updated on your static pages.
There are plenty of things you can do every month to make sure you maintain your website. However, these things will help you keep things moving in the right direction and keep your site up-to-date.
