Getting the Right Domain Name Registration

When you need to get name registration for your domain it is important to understand how the process works.

Our intent is to walk you through the process from start to finish, so that you will know exactly what to expect and what we recommend.

Our marketing is cutting edge from top to bottom

There are a few steps you will need to follow before you go to ITX Design and start the process towards your companies new website domain registration.

You need to access the Google Keyword Tool, which is free, and use it to figure out what keyword phrase you want to target within your domain name. This will help you in many ways and you will have a better chance of ranking higher on the search engines.

We recommend keeping your domain between two and four words in length and we recommend that you don’t use any dashes in between the words. You can, however, add words like top, blog, best, my, or other short words to the front or back of the domain name, if the exact keyword is not available. Always make a list of your top 5 keyword phrase choices before you try to register any of them.

You want a keyword phrase that gets a good amount of searched every month. This means something different to everybody, but we recommend only going for the keywords with at least 5,000 in monthly searches. You will find that data in the Google Keyword Tool. You want to also, target a keyword phrase that is not super competitive.

The Steps for Domain Name Registration

Now that you have your list, you can go to ITX Design and start the process. Enter the first keyword phrase on your list, with no spaces, and choose the dot com extension, then click “Go”. This will take you to a new page and will tell you whether or not your domain name is available for purchase. If it is available you can skip onto the name registration, but if not, you may have to go through the next step.

ITX Design recently changed their process, and now you get a screen that shows all the potential extensions and either a price or back-ordered if they are not available. If the dot com extension is not available, but the dot net or dot org is, then you can purchase one of those two. We don’t recommend any other extensions.

You will also get a few recommendations for alternatives and for premium domain names you can purchase below this section. Feel free to choose one of these, but make sure your main keyword phrase is contained within the domain name. If it is not, then you will lose some of your SEO or search engine optimization power with the search engines.

It may be necessary to go through the list of keyword phrases you have picked and if none of them are available, you may have to try adding a word to the beginning or end of the domain to find one that is available. This may take you a little bit of time, but getting the right domain name will make a huge difference in your overall success.

The Final Name Registration Steps

Once you have a domain name you like, simply click on continue to registration on the right hand side and you will get a screen offering you many add-ons, other domain names, hosting, and more. You don’t need any of this and we don’t recommend you get your hosting from ITX Design

Follow the instructions and click on the “no thanks” wherever they try to sell you something else. Then, enter your details, payment information, and coupon code before you check out. Once you have checked out you will get an email about your domain name registration and you will be all set to forward it to your hosting account.

What can You do With Registered Domains?

If you own many registered domains or just one, you have choices as to what you can do with them. Many people think the only thing a domain name is good for is building a website about what the domain name describes. This is simply not true as you have a few more options than just building a website on your domain name.

Did you know you can build a blog on one of your registered domains, as well? Yes, you can build a blog instead of a website on a domain name with any extension you prefer. This gives you the power to take advantage of the advantages of having a blog and a website instead of just one or the other.

Not only can you build a blog on any of your registered domains, but you won’t have to use a sub domain for it. Of course, those are just examples, but the point is you can use a real domain that will rank better than a sub domain for your blog and your website.

3 Alternatives to Building a Website on Registered Domains

1. Park the Registered Domains

Sometimes you want to take advantage of a special offer from a domain registration company, like ITX Design, but you don’t plan to use all the domains right now. This is the perfect time to park your domain name for a very small fee and let it make you a little bit of money while you are working on other projects. All you have to do is sign up with one of the domain parking companies and they will take care of the rest for you.

2. Sell Registered Domains

If you have a large number of registered domains you never plan to develop into websites, then you can sell off some of your stock to the highest bidder on eBay.com or on one of the many internet marketing forums. People will pay a good amount of money for aged domain names that are keyword rich. There are some people that make a living just by doing this.

3. Build a Blog

We already discussed that you can build a blog on registered domains, but there is more to it than just putting up a blog. Blogs are preferred over websites by many of the search engines and you can take advantage of this power. With a blog, you will be providing new and unique content regularly instead of just building the pages of a website and leaving it alone. This can bring you more traffic and help you make more money.
