Have you come across a helpful resource you’d like to simply link to from your WordPress blog title? When this happens, beginners may not know how to make this happen, but it is possible to link the post title to an external link in WordPress.
You will be using a custom filed hack to allow your WordPress blog to link to an external resource from the post title. This will allow your readers to click on the title and find the resource you want to share. You may want to create a “resource” category or section on your blog specifically for these types of posts.
Linking Your Blog Post Title to an External Resource
This process could become very hard for beginners to understand and the manual solution doesn’t work with every theme. However, there’s an easy way to turn your blog post into a link to an external resource with a WordPress plugin.
The plugin is called Page Links To. Start by downloading, installing and activating this plugin before you do anything else.
Once you’ve activated this plugin, just create a new post and make sure the right screen options are selected. You will see a new option called “Page Link To” and you may need to select this option from the menu.
This will add the following options to the post and page editor below the visual and text editor section.
From this menu, you will be able to leave your post as a normal post or link it to an external resource. If you want to link the title to an external resource, select the “A custom URL” option and enter the URL you would like to link to in the post title. You can also check the option to open the link in a new tab, if you prefer.
When you use this option, you won’t be able to view the post like you normally would because it will take you to the external link you added. However, your readers will see the title in your blogroll and when they click on it, they will land on the external resource. You will also receive a message at the top of the post editor page that looks like this:
Now you can use this plugin to link any post or page title to an external resource on your WordPress website.
