A Quick Guide to Adding a Caption to Your Images in WordPress

If you’ve ever seen a site that adds a small text caption to their images, you may be wondering how to do this for your own WordPress blog. This is a built-in function found within the WordPress dashboard. It’s pretty easy for anybody to add a caption to an image. Here are the instructions you need to make this happen.

First you will need to either upload your image in the medial library or within the post or page you’re working on. The easiest way to do this is by adding the image within your post or page. This is done from the “Add Media” button found below the title of your post.

You will be able to select the image or upload the image you want to use from the next screen.

Once you’ve uploaded or selected the image you want to use, you can add a caption from the details on the right side of the “Add Media” section.

Your website visitors won’t see any information you put in the title, Alt text or description boxes. However, anything you enter within the caption box will be visible below the image within your post or page.

This function can make it easier to explain what the picture shows and you can even do this within an image gallery in WordPress.

After you create a new image gallery, you will be able to add captions below each image.

How to Add Captions to Multiple Images in WordPress

If you need to add captions to more than just one image on your site, you can do this from the Media >> Library section of your dashboard. From this part of your dashboard, you will be able to edit multiple images with the “Edit” link that shows up after you scroll over an image in the list.

Once you click the edit link, you can scroll down to find the caption box below the image. Add the caption for the image and it will be used anywhere you’ve placed this specific image on your website.
