Can You Suggest New Features from WordPress?

Are you curious about how WordPress comes up with the ideas for new features? Maybe you have a few suggestions of your own you think may be helpful. You can actually request features by using the Trac system. Here’s how it’s done.

How WordPress Finds New Feature Ideas

Since WordPress is an open source system, it’s driven by those using the CMS. This includes volunteer developers, a core team of developers and those using WordPress for their own uses.

Users can suggest new features through the WordPress Trac system. This system is sued to track bugs, ticket software and for development. All of the development of WordPress is tracked on Trac.

Along with this system, you can also suggest new features and ideas through the WordPress Ideas

Making Suggestions on Trac

Through the Trac system, you will need to create a ticket to submit an idea. However, you want to search the forum first to ensure nobody else has already suggested the features. If you’re sure it doesn’t exist, click the “Create a Ticket” button to get started.

After you click the button, you will either need to log in or create a free account. Then, you will be taken to a page that looks like this:

If you are sure the feature has not been mentioned in the support forum, fill out the summary, description and other information. You can attach files, if necessary and click the “Continue to Preview” button. Then, just submit your feature when you are satisfied and you’re all done.

After you have submitted your ticket, other contributors and developers will be able to see it. The lead developers will also receive notifications of your ticket. It’s possible that a plugin or a feature may be added to WordPress because of your suggestion.
