Maybe you deal with posts on your WordPress website that need some of the text blacked out. This is called redacting text and it’s possible to do this within WordPress.
It’s similar to the pictures you may have seen of sensitive documents with some of the words readable and others blacked out. If you need to protect information, you can use a WordPress plugin to redact text within posts and pages.
Using the Guerrilla’s Redacted Text WordPress Plugin
Before you do anything else, you will need to install and activate the Guerrilla’s Redacted Text Plugin. Once the plugin is activated, you won’t have to worry about doing anything else. There are no settings to adjust, as this plugin works right out of the box.
All you will need to do to redact text is us the shortcode that works with this plugin. Simply create a new post or page and use the following shortcode to black out the text you don’t want to display:
[redacted]TEXT you want to redact[/redacted]
When you put this shortcode in and you preview your posts, it should black out the text between the codes.
Along with the simple shortcode, you can also add a length to the amount of space you want to redact. The standard code will redact six characters. However, you can add a larger redacted text box by using the following shortcodes:
If you really want to make sure you don’t show the text, you should actually delete the text and leave a redacted space. This will show some text has been deleted, but there will be no way to just check the source of the page to find out what the text is.
When you need to hide text in WordPress, this plugin is the best way to do it. You can redact text as you need and protect any information you don’t want others to see.
