WordPress is bringing out another major release with WordPress 4.2. It will be the first major release for 2015 and is expected to come out at the end of April. Many new things will be coming. Here’s what you can expect.
WordPress Beta Tester Plugin
If you want to test out new WordPress releases before they become live, you can use the WordPress Beta Tester Plugin. This plugin will allow you to get involved with the Beta testing and will let you upgrade to the newest Beta version.
Once you install the plugin, you can access it from the Tools>>Beta Testing option.
Faster Installation and Updating of Plugins
Currently, it’s quite the process to get a plugin installed. It’s not a difficult process, but it takes time and many have wanted WordPress to make it faster. with the new 4.2 version, you will be able to add a new plugin directly from the “Add New Plugin” menu option or the search results.
You won’t have to go through the additional step of activating the plugin, either. This new update will also allow you to update plugins from the Installed Plugins screen and you won’t have to leave the page.
Better Support for Emojis
Those using Emojis often will like this new and improved option in WordPress 4.2. You will be able to use the built-in emoji support, even on a mobile device. You can add emojis in comments, categories, posts and many other places.
With WordPress 4.2, there will be many other improvements including:
- Ability to Switch the Theme in Customizer
- A Better Press This Button
- Changes to the default color scheme
- New features in wp.ally.speak() function
- And More!
Remember, these are just some of the anticipated updates. Many other potential updates may be a part of WordPress 4.2.
