Emojis are icons we use on our phones, in our blogs posts and all over social media. They are basically smileys and tiny icons, which started from Japan. They have made their way to every platform and even WordPress.

Originally, WordPress supported 4-bit Unicode characters, but now they support even more. They have provided new support with plenty of new Emojis with the release of WordPress 4.2.

Disabling Emojis is done specifically because you don’t need them. If you don’t have any good reason to use them, they will slow your site down a very small bit.

What you will be disabling is the many extra scripts and checks that come along with the Emojis. You will still be able to use the Emoji on your website, and they will be displayed with the browsers that support them. You will just be getting rid of the advanced characters coming with the new version of WordPress.

Disabling the Emojis is very easily done with the Classic Smilies plugin. This plugin works right out of the box and only takes installing and activating to work.
