Three steps are required in launching a new website. Two of the most important steps are deciding what company you will use for your web hosting and domain name. In a perfect world every web host and domain registrar would be perfect and honest, however that’s not the case.
Selecting a web hosting and domain name registrar
1.) Domain Registration: Make sure the hosting company you register your domain name with places your information on file. Never allow a company to list themselves as the owner of your domain name. Every domain name is required to list three contacts that include an address, telephone number, and name. We register domains for our clients, however we always ensure they own their own domain name. ITX Design has been offering web hosting for over 10 years and we’ve had to deal with some pretty nasty web hosting and domain name companies that held domains hostage or tried to sell them. The only time you should list another contact is if you’re using Domain Whois Privacy. If you decide to use Domain Whois Privacy be sure you’re working with an experienced web hosting company.
2.) Web Hosting: Setup an online web hosting account. Setting up a new hosting account is simple and it takes less than 5 minutes. Select a web hosting plan and then click order now. Once your order is placed you will receive a welcome letter that includes all of the information you need to get started!
3.) Building Your Site: The first two steps of setting up your web hosting and domain name should take less than 10 minutes. It’s time to focus on building your site. There are a number of tools that you can use. If you wish to build your site yourself I would suggest using our Web Sitebuilder. To access it login to your control panel and click RVSitebuilder. You can also install a CMS (Content Management System) like wordpress or joomla. All of our hosting accounts include RVSitebuilder for free and you can also install wordpress or joomla by logging into your control panel and selecting either Fantastico or Softaculous. Don’t panic, they’re all installed with the click of a button and no technical knowledge is required. If you’re a little more technical or if you’re using a web designer I would suggest viewing the following pages on website templates and stock photography.
