Maybe it’s time to say good-bye to your WordPress blog. You may find it fun to blog, but it’s just time to let it go. If this is the case, you need to understand how to delete your WordPress blog.
Different Types of WordPress
The process of deleting your blog will be different if you use WordPress.com versus WordPress.org. Understanding the difference will help you figure out how to properly delete your blog.
WordPress.com Blog Removal
Before you remove your blog for good, back everything up. This will allow you to change your mind later on. If you decide to restore your blog, the backup file will make it easy.
Within your WordPress.com blog, you won’ find a single button for downloading all your data, however. You will need to go to Tools>>Export to get the data you need.
If you select all content, you will get everything all in one download.
After you have backed everything up, you can find the “Delete Site” option under Tools. Just click on this option and you will be given a popup to confirm. If you have a custom domain name, you will have to move the domain to a different registrar before deleting your site.
Deleting Your Self Hosted WordPress Blog
Again, before you start to delete your self-hosted WordPress blog, back everything up. You can do this in the same manner or you can use ab backup plugin to do so.
After backing your site up, you will need to log into your cPanel and go to File Manager.
Go to the root directory of your WordPress site and just delete all the folders and files. This will get rid of your WordPress.org site for good. Of course, if you change your mind, the backup files will allow you to restore your site.
Keep in mind, when you delete a website, it won’t be gone immediately from the web. There will be a cache copy out there and other sites that have tracked the site’s history.
