Have you started a WordPress blog and you’re having all kinds of fun posting, but you want to make a little cash from it? Did you know there are numerous ways you can monetize your WordPress blog? In this post, we are going to cover multiple ways to monetize your WordPress blog.
What are Your Choices?
The easiest ways to monetize your WordPress blog include:
- Google AdSense
- Amazon Affiliates
- Commission Junction
You can use a combination of these four methods of monetization or just choose one.
Monetizing Your WordPress Blog with Google AdSense
Google AdSense allows you to insert code for ad blocks on your website. You don’t actually have to sell anything to make money with this monetization method. Whenever a visitor clicks on one of the Google AdSense ads, you will get paid for that click.
Before you sing up for Google AdSense, you will need to have your website up and running with some content on it. This will help with the approval process.
You will need to apply for an account by going to Adsense.Google.com. If you already have a Google account, you can simply sign in and follow the on-page instructions. If not, you will need to set up a Google account to use this advertising tool.
Once you’ve completed the first part of the application, Google will review your site to ensure it fits with their terms and conditions. If it does, they will approve you and you will be able to insert a block of code for advertising on your website. You can reference our post on How to Insert Ads in WordPress Posts for help with inserting your Google AdSense code.
After you insert the code onto your WordPress website, Google will, once again, verify that your website meets with their terms and conditions. This will cause ads to show up in the area you created by inserting the code and you will begin to see statistics on your Google AdSense homepage.
Monetizing your WordPress Website with Amazon Associates
Amazon has an Associates program, which allows you to get paid for any orders placed by someone clicking over to Amazon.com from your website. Once you become a part of the program, you can insert general advertisement on your WordPress blog, links to specific products and many other types of Amazon advertisements onto your blog.
You will find the link to sign up for the Amazon Associates program at the bottom of the Amazon homepage here:
This is another free program, but you will need to have your website set up with some content on it before they will approve you. Once you’re approved, you can link to specific products by using the toolbar and searching for the product you want to link to or you can use one of the many other advertising tools offered within your account homepage. You can find the most popular advertisements under the “Links & Banners” section of your Amazon Associates Homepage.
There are a number of different ways to advertise on your site with Amazon and you will get paid a commission on any orders that come from visitors clicking over to Amazon from your WordPress website.
Monetizing Your WordPress Blog with Commission Junction
Commission Junction is a huge affiliate website with programs for a number of top companies. You can sign up for a free account and gain access to many advertisers. Each advertiser will approve you individually based on what they are looking for and your website. You will also get paid in a different way depending on the specific advertiser.
Once an advertiser has approved your website, you can start placing ads for them. They will provide different codes for different sizes and types of advertising you can use.
Monetizing Your WordPress Blog with Clickbank
Clickbank is another very large affiliate website. However, they deal with mainly digital products, whereas, Commission Junction deals with mainly physical products. You can sign up for a free account with Clickbank and gain access to thousands of products to advertise on your WordPress website.
If you don’t have your website up and running yet, or you don’t have much content, you can still use Clickbank. The advertisements will vary from one product to another.
All four of these monetization methods are very popular and work quite well when implemented properly. You can use plugins to help insert the ads in the right places or use the text widget for sidebar and footer advertising.
