Do you want to Share Private WordPress Posts with Groups?

Sometimes you want to share a post in WordPress with a group privately. Fortunately, WordPress has a way for you to create private posts and make them password protected as well. You’ll have to make a private post and have editor level permissions to see it which makes it a little tricky.

How do you share a post that’s only meant for a specific group of people, like your team at work or just for your family members? Share posts with users groups in WordPress by installing and activing the right plugin. Here’s a look at what you need to know.

What to install

WP JV Post Reading Groups

You can get this feature on WordPress and stop worrying about a lack of privacy when sharing with your work staff or family by installing and activating the WP JV Post Reading Groups. Once you activate it, you’ll go to settings and then “reading” to create your “reading group.”

Reading Groups

You’ll enter the name for your group, such as “Family” or “My Staff” and then click on the button that says “Add New Reading Group.” Repeat this step as much as needed to add more reading groups, such as one for your department, one for your floor, or one for your Tuesday night gathering group of friends.

What’s next?

Once you’ve entered all of your reading groups, you’ll add your users to the reading groups. Simply go to your WordPress admin area, go to the Users page, and edit the user you want to add to your group. The WP JV Reading Groups section is going to be towards the bottom of the page where you can check the box next to the user group that you want to add a user in to. Add a user to multiple groups and then click on “update user button” when you’re done.

How do I share the post with my group?

Once you are ready to share something with your group, you’ll want to learn how to share posts privately with the right group. You’ll create a new post or edit an existing one and when you do, this time you’ll get a WP JV Reading groups meta box.

Reading Group In Post

You’ll have the option to click a checkbox next to the group names you own and you can choose which one it was intended for. Set your post to private by clicking on the “Edit” link next to “Visibility.” You’re all set to update or publish the post that will only be visible to the group you chose.

Keep in mind that your user group won’t give any special permission to your users because the capability of your WordPress site users stays the same.

If you’re tired of never feeling a sense of privacy when you want to share something with your team members, your relatives, or your boss, set up groups on WordPress to divide your users into the right categories. Then, start sharing private posts like the productivity tips only meant for your work crew, the holiday ideas only meant for your family, or that hilarious video to your group of friends.
