Adding CAPTCHA to your WordPress website can help keep out the spam registrations. These can be a big pain if you don’t have a way to keep them out. Spam bots will create logins so they can post spam comments, which can make your site quality drop. One way to keep this from happening is by adding a CAPTCHA to the login screen.
Plugins for Adding CAPTCHA to your WordPress Website
There are a number of plugins you can use for adding CAPTCHA to the WordPress login screen. Two of the best choices are Better WordPress reCAPTCHA and CAPTCHA. Both of these plugins will work in similar ways and they both work with Contact Form plugins, as well.
Once you’ve downloaded one of these two plugins, you will need to install it on your WordPress website. For this example, we will use the CAPTCHA plugin.
Once installed, this plugin can be accessed from the “BWS Plugins” item within your WordPress Dashboard.
You will notice that BWS has many other plugins and they will all work with this specific CAPTCHA plugin. There is also a pro version, if you need additional features.
To make adjustments to the settings of this CAPTCHA plugin, just click the “Captcha” option under the BWS Plugins menu. This will take you to the “Settings” page.
From this page, you can decide where you want the CAPTCHA to show up. The “Login Form” option will place a CAPTCHA on your WordPress login screen. You can also choose to have a CAPTCHA display on the registration form, comments form and reset password form.
Along with choosing where the CAPTCHA will be displayed, you can add a title and change some of the other options.
Once you have set all of the options the way you prefer, you will see the CAPTCHA appear on the login screen.
If you decide you would rather use the Better WordPress reCAPTCHA plugin, you will need to install it and follow the instructions. It’s not quite as simple as the CAPTCHA plugin from BWS and they both do about the same thing.
