How to Get Your Website on Google

google-logoHow to Get Your Website on Google – The Basics of Indexing a Website
After building your website, you may want to know how to get your website on Google. Well to get on Google you must get your website indexed by Google, and that means you will receive an acknowledgment from Google that your site exists on the Internet.

The same concept holds true for the other search engines such as Bing and Yahoo, and the process of being indexed by them follows a similar process as for Google.

Before taking the steps to index your site in Google, it makes sense to first ensure that the site is not already indexed. You can check this by logging into Google.com and keying the following into the search box – “site: yoursitename.com”. If your site is already indexed, the results pages will show you exactly how many pages are already indexed.

If you do not receive any results pages, it means that your site is not yet indexed in Google so you will need to follow a few simple steps to index the site.

  1. First create a Google webmaster account (search for ‘Google webmaster account’ and follow the instructions). This account will help you in indexing your site and will also help to get traffic to it once it is indexed.
  2. Create an XML sitemap and submit it to Google. For instructions on creating a site map go to xml-sitemaps.com and complete the steps there.
  3. Next submit your site to tagzbook.com. This is a social bookmarking site and will help broadcast the fact that your site has been created, and because the Google bots frequent this site very often, there is a good change that the Google bots will crawl your site and index it before too long.
  4. Next create a Google analytics account. Search for ‘google analytics’ and follow the steps to create a new account. The analytics account will provide you with analytic details of the site’s operation including the traffic that comes to it, the links that brought them there and the source of the traffic.
  5. For the purpose of getting the site indexed, this tool will be used by Google to verify that you are authorized to access the site. You will be asked to add some Google tracking code to the website.
  6. After adding the code, Google would be able to verify that it was added and the site will be processed for indexing.
  7. The indexing process of Google may take several hours, but most likely may take several days and possibly, in some cases, even a week or two.
  8. After these steps are completed, you would need to check periodically to see if your site has been indexed by doing a search in Google (“site: yoursitename.com”).

The site has now been indexed but that is just the beginning of the life of the site. In order for the site to profitable, it must be ranked as highly in the search engines as possible.

google-globeThe aim is to get the site to rank highly enough for it to show up on the first page of the Google search engine results pages whenever someone keys into the search engine the keywords that you are optimizing your website for.

The process of ranking a website is also done by Google and it is that search engine’s way of evaluating the relevance of the website content to the declared niche keywords it is being optimized for.

Ranking Important Keywords In Google

When attempting to rank a site in Google for specific keywords, you will be in competition with other websites in Google’s search engine index that are ranking for the same keywords. The aim would be to get the site in page one of Google, and the higher on the page the better. If a website does not show up in those first 10 positions, then it would not be seen by 85% of all visitors who search using the same keywords the website is optimizing.

How to get your website on Google is the initial process of getting the site indexed in the major search engine and is followed by a process of achieving high rankings that will increase the visibility and profitability of the site. Without these two processes, a website may be completely built but would never be found by its prospective customers.

How to get to the Top of Google and Stay There
How to get to the top of Google is the quest of all webmasters.  Being at the top means that a website is ranking high in the search engines (SEs) and the higher a website ranks, the more targeted visitors it will receive to its web pages, the more sales it will make and also the more business revenue it will generate.

If a website does not rank in the first 10 positions in Google, it will not be seen by 85% of visitors who are searching with the keywords the website is attempting to optimize.

So what exactly are the processes that can be undertaken to achieve high search engine (SE) ranking? To begin with, it cannot be overstated that the main process of attaining good SE rankings is by producing quality content on your site – good SEs rankings will follow. Write for your prospective customers and create a valuable customer experience, do not focus on figuring out the SEs.

Keyword phrases may be competitive or not competitive when trying to rank for them in the SEs depending on how many other websites are also trying to rank for them – in other words how much competition there is for the keywords.

If competition for the particular keyword is not very competitive, then you will have a much easier time getting a good ranking or placement in the search engine results pages (SERPS). However, when there is more competition for the keyword, it will be much harder to achieve a high ranking in the SERPS and a lot more work will need to be done to rise higher.

Ranking Non Competitive Keyword Phrases

  • Ensure that the keyword phrase the website is ranking for is contained in the title and in the body of the page content.
  • Do not keyword stuff the content, as this will reduce the website’s rankings.
  • Provide valuable and relevant content on the webpages
  • It may take a few weeks for the optimized pages to reach the #1 position in Google but it will get there.
  • Ranking Competitive Keyword Phrases
  • Always ensure that you provide quality content that is good, useful and relevant to the keywords you are optimizing. The content should be compelling, authoritative, interesting and unique. Ensure that the page loads quickly, that there are no broken links and it is not filled with a list of cheap keywords.
  • In 64 or fewer characters, create a title for each page that  is an accurate description of your page content.
  • Link the website to authoritative, high ranking sites that are relevant in topic matter.
  • Provide internal linking of one webpage to another in the website, linking related materials.
  • Build your website with the user experience in mind.  Make the site easy to load and navigate, and do not include annoying elements such as popups,  animated texts and images. The site should be easy to read and attractive.
  • Your website will rank well in the SEs if it has content-rich pages that are fast-loading and contain the keyword phrases you are ranking for contained on the pages and in the title.

How to get to the top of Google is dependent on providing quality content and getting high quality links naturally and discreetly. Attempting to provide your site with thousands of links in a short period of time will look like a purposeful manipulation of Google’s algorithm and will reduce the website ranking. Links should be obtained from news sites, blogs and other websites naturally and over a period of time. They should also be from relevant and higher page ranked sites to benefit you site’ ranking.
