Since WordPress is often used by travelers and travel bloggers, an interactive map can be very helpful. Whether you’re planning a trip and want to show where you are going or you want to show where you already went, adding interactive maps can be very helpful.
Using the Nomad World Map Plugin for WordPress
Before you do anything else, you will need to install and activate the Nomad World Map Plugin for WordPress. This plugin will allow you to create a custom travel map for any type of trip.
Once you activate this plugin, you will have a new menu item in your dashboard called, “Nomad Map.”
After clicking on this option, you will have the ability to create a route in the route editor. This is done by adding locations you have visited or you plant to visit on your trip.
You will have the ability to show specific content with each location, such as travel dates or a post on your blog. If you link this to a post with a featured image, you will even get a thumbnail to show up with it.
This plugin will also allow you to change the position of the location and enter your travel dates. After you are happy with the details, you can save them and add all the information to the map.
Creating Multiple Maps
You can create more than just one map with this plugin. If you go to the “Manage Maps” option under “Nomad Map” you will be able to edit any created maps and create a new map. Just click on the “Add New Map” button to create a new map.
This will allow you to name your new map. Then, just go back to the “Route Editor” option and you can use the dropdown to edit the map of your choice.
The maps you create can be displayed with the shortcode: [nwp_map] or [nwp_map id=”4″]. The second shortcode will allow you to display a different map once you find the ID, which is listed in the “Manage Maps” section.
Now you can create and display maps of your trips on your WordPress website.
