Sometimes it’s important to update media files or images for your WordPress website. When this is the case, you need an easy way to replace them without interrupting your website.
It can seem tedious to go through each image, upload a new file, rename it and put it in the post where it needs to go. However, this isn’t the best way to replace a media file or an image in WordPress. Here’s a better way.
Using the Enable Media Replace Plugin for WordPress

The Enable Media Replace Plugin for WordPress is the easy answer to this issue. This plugin will make it easy to upload a new file and replace it in your media library without renaming it and inserting it back into the post where it belongs.
Start by installing and activating the plugin within your WordPress dashboard. After you have activated the plugin, you will be able to replace media files without changing any settings. It works right out of the box and makes it very easy to replace images and other media files.
Go to Media>>Library and you will be able to work with the plugin from each media file within the library.

Now, under each file, you will have the “Replace Media” option. Just click on this option and you will see this page:

From this page, just select the new file you want to replace the old file. Then, choose to just replace the file or to replace the file, use the new file name and update all your links. Once you have chosen your options, you can click the “Upload” button and you will be all set.
If you want to make sure the plugin worked, you can visit the posts or pages that have that specific image or medial file displayed. As long as the new file is there, you’re all set.
