Can you Customize the WordPress Admin Area?

Maybe you think your WordPress dashboard is a bit cluttered or isn’t quite like you want it to be. There are plenty of ways you can customize what shows up in the edit screens, the color of your dashboard and many other parts of your WordPress admin area. Some of these settings will change per user and not across the entire blog, however.

Adjusting the Screen Options

Once of the easiest ways to customize the WordPress admin area is with the screen options found in the both the page and post edit screens. It’s found at the top right of the screen and provides a dropdown screen.

In this section, you will be able to adjust what shows up after the editor for your page or post. Some plugins will add additional options here. Just check the boxes next to the options you want to use and leave the ones you don’t need unchecked.

This can also be done on the Comments Page. You can decide to show the Author and the In Response To on the screen. Along with these two options, you can decide how many comments you want to display per page. Just click the “Screen Options” section in the left top corner.

Changing the Color of your WordPress Dashboard

Another way you can customize the WordPress Admin area is by changing the color scheme. You can do this for each profile from the profile edit section.

Go to Users >> All Users and select the profile you want to edit. You will see the following:

As soon as you click the radio button for a new color scheme, you will see it change in your dashboard. This allows you to preview the looks before you actually save your changes.

Choose from eight different color schemes, which all come by default with WordPress. IF you want to add eight more color schemes, you can use the Admin Color Scheme WordPress plugin. Just download and install the plugin like any other and the options will show up in your user profile edit section.

If you’re sick of the regular look of the WordPress admin area, you can make these simple changes. Customize your dashboard in any way you would like with both the screen options menu and the color schemes provided for each profile.
